OHINEMURI.

Licensing Commissioners.—The election for the Ohinemuri Licensing Committee took place on Tuesday last at the County Office. There was not much interest evinced, and Mr N. Kenny returning officer declared the poll as follows :— Edwin Edwards, 21!; John Philips junr., 24: J. Burrett, 23; N. Dickey, 21; 1. Lipsey, 19; C. F. Mitchell, 19; P. Sheehy, 13. The returning officer gave his casting vote in favour of Mr Lipsey, who tied for fifth place with Mr Mitchell, the former gentleman having been on the outgoing committee. r. Mining.—The Waihi Gold Mining Company is now sending in regular consignments of bullion to town. About 1800 oz. have been sent during the past few weeks. The two Pel ton wheels are now m full swing, and as soon as the rain sets in there will be sufficient water power to run the entire plant. Some good ore is to hand and the process now in vogue is roasting in kilns ; the rotary furnace being now in disuse : dry crushing and pan treatment. There have been one or two good finds at Waihi recently, the best being in the Onslow, recently owned by one Ford, who has just filed his schedule in bankruptcy, but now owned by a small local syndicate. At the other mining centres there is very little doing. The Warden is visiting local mines to see if the work done has be n sufficient to hold them. A little judicious forfeiture would do a lot of good here.
