In the return Intercolonial Cricket Match, New South Wales beat Victoria by four wickets. The overland telegraph line to Port Darwin is interrupted. Melbourne, January 30. Mr Deakin, Chief Secretary, will be alloted the portfolio of Public Health, the office created under the new Health Bill. The Government have received a cablegram from the Agent-General stating that influenza germs are transmittable iu mail matter and other packages. January 31. Sir John Thurston, Governor of Fiji, one of the delegates to the Federation Conference, which opens next week, has intimated to Mr Ellis his inability to be present. Brisbane, January 30. Lord Hervey Phipps, third son of the Marquis of Normandy, was thrown from his horse yesterday, and lies in a precarious condition.
