TE AROHA.
Towk Board. — The ordinary monthly meeting of this Board was held on .Friday evening last, when there were present: Corns. Gallagher (chairman), Mills and lieathcute. The minut&i of the last ordinary, special, and adjourned meetings ware read and confirmed. The inward correspondence consisted of a memo, from tho treasury, advising payment of 3.s 9d to the credit of the Board on account of goldfields revenue; a complaint from Messrs and On., re damage to posts at his premises, which was referred to the Works Committee to report; a letter from Com. Ebert, tendering his resignation as a member of tho Board, as the meetings ot the Board were usually held at his busiest time, and he was, therefore, unable to give tho Board's business that attention which he otherwise would. It was resolved, on the motion of Com. Heathcote, seconded by Coin. Mills, that Mr Ebert's resignation be accepted, and the Chairman moved that Mr Crump, the Keturning Officer, be notified of the extraordinary vacancy. Seconded by Com. Heathcote and carried. The following accounts were passed for payment :—F. Pavitt, £3 3s ; Postal Department, 10s ; C. Balcke, 11s 10d ; C. Ahiei, 7s ; Priestly, 2s 6d ; J. Dare, £2 10s ; total, £7 Is 4d. The Chairman, in accordanco with notice oF motion at a special meeting, proposed that a rate of sixpence in the £be struck on all ratable properties within the town district, which was seconded by Com. Mills and carried. This concluded the business.
Auction Sales.—Mr J. McNicol held three auction sales here on Saturday, and onsidering the times, obtained very good prices at them all. The first waa the stock-in-trade of Mr Jesso Devey, blacksmith, who is leaving for Otago. The principal purchasers were Messrs D. McL. Wallace, J. Cochrane, G. Taylor, C. Hall, l< , . Jones, and other tradesmen about the district. A large iron cutting machine was bought by a Cambridge visitor for £30. Mr G. Taylor bought the premises and intends carrying on the businoss. Mr Murray's sale of household furniture was very v.'ol! attended and on the whole realized good prices. The sales of horses later on also attracted a large crowd, although the buying was not very extensive, many of the animals being passed in.
