Thk weather to-day was everything that could be desired, there being scarcely any wind, and the sun shone out brightly. The proceedings opened with the Teams Match for which there were 27 entries. After a very exciting contest, this match was won by the "A " Battery, Auckland Artillery who made splendid shooting at the final range (500 yards). The visitors are to ba entertained at a smoke concert to-raorrow night at the presentation of prize?. Hospital Orderly Coombes, of • Christchurch, "'ho died on Friday, was buried this afternoon with military honours. There w.is a large attendance of the local volunteers and shouting representatives, and the streets were thronged with people, Wellington, Sunday. The result of the Rifle Championship created great excitement here, Seaman Williams' (Wellington Naval*) victory being a very popular one. Dunedin, Last Night. The weather to-day was very cold with intermittent showers, which necessitated the frequent postponement of the shooting and only two matches were fired to-day, the Distuet Match and the Intercolonial Match. In the former four districts competed, the result being, Canterbury 1,517, they take the Challenge Shield, the Hobson Cup and £20. Otago second, 14(!S ; Wellington and Wairnrapa, 1419 ; Napier and Taranaki, 1305. The > Intercolonial Match between Victoria and New Zealand teams, 10 men aside, created a deal of interest. At the 200 yards range Victoria led by 10 points and at the finish of the 500 yards New Zealand led by 8 points, but at (iOO yards they burst up and when the match was finished the Victorian team were 30 points to the good.
