CRICKET.
Cambridge East v. West. The above match was played in the Government paddock, Cambridge, on Boxing-Day, and resulted in a win for the East side by Do runs. This match has become an annual institution in Cambridge, and great interest was taken in it, several of the players eing natives of the town who reside at a, di-tance. and this is the only opportunity they have of fighting a friendly battle at cricket. The captains were Messrs O. Garland and Longbottom, for West and East, respectively, the latter veteran cricketer making top score, 10. Les. Bull did yeoman service for his side, scoring 16 and in; ar.d he, Roberts and Wilson all proved very destructive with the ball. Light, B. Garland and Hosking well for the West team ; but, unfortunately J we cannot give the bowling analysis, as one of the ccorers did not understand the business, and mixed matters up in a delightful manner. Tho following are the scores:— East.—J. McVeigh, 9, 9; M. Stubbing, 4, 7 ; C. Roberts, 0, 0 ; Les. Bull, IG, 15 ; Longbottom, 19,0; C. Carpenter, 1, (not out) 10; J. Wilson, 7, 15; 1\ Richardson, 1, 0; Gailev, (J, absent; 1). Dillon, 1, 0 • Riley, f>, 11; extra*, fl, 10; totals, 78, 73. Wkst.—Light, 3, 6 ; C. Bull, 1, absen Hooking, 0, 3; Len. Bull, 4, 1; T. Hicks, 1, 3 ; j). T. Hicks, 6. 0 ; B. Garland, 5, 2 ; MoKinnon, 14, 0; C. Hicks, 2, 11; Wallace, not out, 0, 7 ; extras, 7, 3; total?. 44, 43. The players from the West side of the river are not at all satisfied with the resu' of the match, and a return one will t. played to-morrow, when they hope to prove victorious. Tho match will again be played in the Government paddock, at Cambridge East.
