TE AROHA DOMAIN BOARD.

The adjourned meeting of this board for the i»ur(x>se of electing a Chairman for the ensuing year took place on Saturday evening, when there were present, Messrs Gavin, (chairman), Lipsey, Ilott, and Ahier. Before proceeding with the busines-s Mr Lipsey said he wished to apologize to Mi Gavin for being absent at last meeting as when on hia way to the meeting he found he was a little late. The chairman gracefully acknowledged the explanation. The minutes of the previous tneetitiK were then read, and at the request of Mr Ilott, the .minutes of the former special meeting re the election of chairman. —The Chairman then said thsy were all aware of the business which called them together that evening, and he took the occasion to thank them for the support which as Chairman, he had received from the members. They as a Board may not have done a great deal, but they had done their best and no doubt had they had more money, greater improvements would have been made in the domain. They had been told by the Minister they could not borrow money, but he was satisfied that when the Board is in funds, these improvements (some of which be enumerated), would be made. He again begged to thank them, and vacated the chair.—Mr Ahier said it was not necessary for Mr Gavin to leave the chair, as he was chairman until his successor was appointed.— Mr Ilott remarked that it had been the custom. Mr Gavin then left the chair, when Mr Lipsey in a neat and complimentary speech, proposed that Mr Gavin be again appointed chairman for the ensuing year, Mr Gavin had always conducted the business to the best of his ability ; no better man was amongst them. —Mr Ahier concurred in Mr Lipsey's remarks and had much pleasure in seconding the resolution, which was declared cariied. —Mr Gavin, in re-assuming the chairmanship, thanked the Board for the honour they had done him ; he would do his beet during his new term of office, and hoped by the next annual election they would have more money in hand. Some conversation ensued re preliminaries of having the lawn t nnis ground asphalted, and the further consideration of this was deferred to a future meeting. —The Cbr-irman t>ien reported with respect to the sulphur baths ; he was not in a position to give an estimate of the cost, and thought it would be necessary to have an estimate from either an architect or engineer. IV his mind there would be no difficulty in getting the water in; they would be obliged to erect a pump and have the water pumped into No. 3. If the members were agreed he thought it would be best to have a bath house erected. —Mr Lipsey thought it need not be an elaborate building, whilst Mr Ilott suggested that it might, with advantage, be made a double house, one part to be roserved for the sole use of the natives.—Some further conversation took pluce, and it was understood the building would measure 20ft. by 10ft. Mr Ahier volunteered to give the chairman assistance in preparing a rough plan and specifications, and irtoved that the matter of the erection of a building over the sulphur springs be left in the hands of the chairman.—Mr Ilott seconded, and moved as an addition to the resolution that tenders be called for the erection of the building at once, which was agreed to and carried.—Mr Ahier gave notice of motion that at the next meeting of the Board (fixed for Monday, 23rd inst.) he would move that the sum of £10 be devoted towards advertising at Dunedin, in view of the exhibition there. —A letter from Mr Brooks, secretary for the Tβ Aroha Brass Baud, was read ; the purport of the letter being a request that the Board would be good enough to place the present band in the same position as their predecessors as to promised donation of £7 10s in consideration of their playing twice a week in the domain during the season. All the members present appeared satisfied as to the grant, and a resolution will be dealt with od the 23rd.—The Secretary stated they had run short of bath tickets.—This was also relegated to the meeting on the 23rd.
