(by telegraph.— pbkss association.) CHRESTCHUXCfI, Last Night. The fire on the Beltana is believed to have been extinguished. Arrangements are being made to discharge her cargo. A man named William Thompson felt off a dray at Killinchy last night, and was dragged some distance along the road, receiving injuries from which he died this morning. " Professor " Jackson, the parachutist, attempted an ascent from the paddock opposile (Joker's Hotel, this evening, but the wind blew his balloon into the telegraph wires close by, and the parachute became entauglec?, when Jackson let go, escaping unhurt. The balloon was carried over Porthills, to the south side of tho harbour, where it was secured. DUNEDIN, Last Night. I havo authority for denying the rumour that the Government intend making calls to the Legislative Couucil, as no appointments will be made during the recess. The Dunedin Exhibition Regatta Committee, through the New South Wales Commissioner, are forwarding a resolution of condolence and sympathy to Searle's relatives.
