Paterangi v. CambridgeTun first match this season, between the aboio Club.--, was played at Pa-teransri on Saturday. It was a Cup match, and therefore created a deal of interest, for Uio Paterangi team have hitherto proved themselves almost invincible. Th* result prove-), as was generally expected, u win for the home team, but the victory waa a narrow one, it being by live runs only on the first innings ; and hxd there been time to complete the match, the Cambridge team would have stood a fair chance of being victors, as n the second innings the Paterangi team were only 49 at the close of the day, with two wickets to fall. Their top scorer waa Graham, who went in first and carried out his bat for a total of 16, for which feat he was hoisted shoulder high and carried off the field. Ho proved a regular sticker, refused to be tempted by easy balls, and must havo sorely troubled the Cambridge bowlers. Hβ opened his innings with a .six, but after that display he blocked every] thing, the remainder being three doubles/ and four singles. Higginson 13 and Case 11, wera the only other double figure men in the first innings, but Crookes made 11, not out, in the second ; his bowling average was also very good. The Cambridge team was, as usual, short-handed, but Mr Rigg kindly filled the vacancy. Park and Wilson made things lively for a time, tho former scoring 19 and the lnrtar 12 ; Long bottom also reached double figures, making: 11. It appeared as if Park was going to carry his bat through the innings, but Richdale managed to catch him off a ball of Orooke-j'. Lnnghottoin's bowling average was very good, Wilson also did good servicb with the ball. One of the Cambridge team was a boy (Evans) scarcely higher than the bat, but he. nevertheless added three to the score, and caused a laugh by the manly stride he put on.
