THE CABINET.
[BV TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington-, Wednesday. Both the Post and Press this evening come out with a statement that the resignation of an important member of the Ministry is imminent, and that Gapt. Russell's visit to Wanganui is to see Mr Bryce and arrange for his admission to the Cabinet. The Press goes so far as to s:iy that Mr Mitchelson is the member who is about to resign, and that Mr Bryce is ultimately to become Premier, should Sir Harry's health continue bad. Til.? two statements bear so remarkable a likeness that they appear to have come from the same source, but there in apparently not a word of truth in them. Mr Mitchelson unhesitatingly denies any intention of resigning, and expresses the utmost surprise at the statement. He thinks possibly it may have been based on the fact that his family are going to Auckland on Saturday, Mrs Mitchelson having for some time bei;n unwell and anxious for a change. He also states that Oapt. Russell's sole motive for visiting Wanganui is to present the prizes at the College, and it isrjiiite possible that the Colonial Secret iry will hoc si?e Mr Bryce. It may be added that the reason given by both papers fur Mr Mitcholson's retirement is urgent private affairs; but Mr Mitehulson sfcitos that there is no more ground for this than any other portion of the cm ird.
