SERIOUS ACCIDENT.
FIVE MEN ENTOMBED. (by teleghaph—pbess association). Wellington , , Wednesday. Thk Government have received telegrams from the manager nf the water race at Kuinara that No. 1 channel caved in about !)0 chains from the mouth of the channel while a head of water was turned on. The channel was immediately choked up, closing the entrance, in which it is supposed five men are entombed. The water rose in the pump up near the spot to a height of t'venty-n've feet or more. Ho thinks it possible that the air enclosed in the new tunnel may have kept the water out to a certain level, and the men may be alive. All the water has been turned off, and is gradually being drnwn out. Notiiiug can be done until the water subsides. A number of miners are ready to render all a^si^tance. (Jrkymouth, Wednesday.
