ON THE DEATH OF DR. CARET. Gone to thy rest! After thy life's long toil, i'oldcd thy hands and laid thee down ! For aye, The tender heart! The gentle voice ! The eye So kindly beaming ; closed, and mute, still, With such deeu stillness only death Yet dead thou art not to thy faithful friends, Long in their hearts thy mera'ry will survive, And in tby deeds remembered still, will seem, Thy spirit's presence lingering ever near. December 11th, 18S9.
