(JY ELECTRIC TELEGKAI'H—UOI'YRIGHT). Sydney, December 12. The funeral of Searle, the late champion sculler of the world, who died at Melbourne, takes place here on Saturday, the remains being brought by train overland. It is proposed to erect a monument to his memory at the finish of the Parramatta River champion course. Mklbouknh, December 12. A great crowd numbering thousands of people, followed the remains of Searle to the railway station, whence the body was taken to Sydney. The streets were thronged, and the proceedings were most impressive. It has been suggested here that a national monument should be erected over his grave. London, December 12. Referring to the sculling championship, the Sportsman declares that Peter Kempt has no local standing as a champion, and that O'Connor, the Toronto sculler, has a prior claim to the position.
