FOOTBALL.
A large number of players and spectators assembled on Sydney Square on Saturday afternoon last, to witness the presentation of the banner, given by Mrs Gwynne to the Hamilton Football Club and the footballers race of 110 yards, Ist priza silver medal, 2nd prize silver locket. Mr T. U. Sandes acted as starter, and Messrs L. Cussen and G. Edgecumbe filled the positions of judges. Thirteen players started for this event, which was won by about 4 yards by J. Tidd (1.) yds.,) M. Hitmo (8 yds.) being second. The prizes were awarded to the winners by Mrs Gwynne, who, at the same time presented the baunor to the captain on behalf of the club ; and Mr G. Edgecumbe on her behalf spoke in high terms of the successful manner in which the club had met all their engagements, and referred to the extremely good feeling in which they were all played. The captain (Mr R. J, Gwynne) responded in a few well chosen words, and assured tho donor that tho club would endeavour to keep up the reputation they had earned. Mr Edgecumbe oil behalf of the club then presented the captain with a very handsome gold locket, as a small token of the esteem in which he was held by his team. .Mr Gwynne replied in suitable terms and thanked thom very much for the present. The club then fell in round the banner, and were photographed by Mr Reid, and a very enjoyable afternoon's amusement terminated, by three cheers being fiven tor Mrs (.1 Wynne, tho captain, and Airs Calder. Before dispersing, Mr Reid took another photo, after which the team were invited to refreshments by Mr Le Quesne at the Waikato Hotel, and it is needless to say that the invitation was accepted, a similar invitation was accepted from Mrs Gwynne.
