IBY TELEGRAPH.— I'HEHS ASSOCIATION. J Wellington, Monday. It is stated that Major Howell, 'present adjutant ot tho Canterbury district, is to bt removed to Wellington, where he will act as chief clerk in the Defence Office, and hold the position of acting adjutant of tho Wellington district. Major Howell is to be succeeded as adjutant of the Canterbury district by Major Webb, of Nelson, and the Westland volunteers are to be left without an adjutant. The Mayor of Wellington, who is at Dunediu, wired to the Town Clerk that His Excellency, is also endeavouring to arrange that the other Australian Governors who intend to visit the Exhibition should be in Wellington on the 22nd proximo, when the jubilee of the colony will be celebrated.

At the Supreme Court, Thos. li. Turnbull, charged with wilfully shooting a cow, the property of his neighbour, was acquitted. Further charges have yet to be heard. The woman Bontillier was acquitted on the charge of breaking and entering at Otako.

Tho 11.M.5. Tongariro arrivod from London, via, Cape and Hobart, at 4 o'clock this afternoon. She left Plymouth on the Itlt-h October, Sauta Cruz on the 24th, Capetown on the Bth November, and Hobart at 8.10 p.m. on the 27th. Until arriving at Hobart sho encountered variable winds, but after leaving that port she experienced a North East gale with a heavy confused sea, and much rain.
