EXCITING SCENE IN A WILD BEAST SHOW.
Ox Tuesday evening, September 17th, •Tcafc excitement was caused among a very considerable number of persona who were assembled in Wombwcll's menagerie at Shrewsbury by a scene during a performance with five lions in a cage. M. Oreuzo, the "lion hunter" and performer, entered the cage armed simply with a thick stick, and after going successfully and safely through various other performances, he opened the mouth of the liouess and placed his face betweon tlie jaws, The animal at once gave him a auap, which drew a eousiilerablu quantity of blood, from a wound in each cheek. Oreuzo. who displayed the utmost coolness, inflicted summary chastisements upon the offender, aud waa leaving the cage, when the lioness followed him, apparently intending to make another attack. The intrepid performer, turning briskly round, commenced the attack himself instead, and very speedily the lioness was completely cowed and obedient, but Orenzo had subsequently to »o to the infirmary to have his wounds dressed. Later in the evening, however, he went through his performance again as usual.
