HOME RULE.
'I'D TUB EDITOR. Sih, —I see with (egret that the tone of the argument in regard to this subject is taking a personal turn, " Hamiltunian," in today's issue beintr vary indiscreet—to Kive it a mild term. He has 110 right to introduce the religious aspect of tho question into the subject. It is the trump card played by men in Ireland and England, who can find 110 better excuse to inveigh against what will come in spite of all their efforts to prevent it. I would advise all those who, like myself, believe in Home Rule, to abstain from recrimination, and not allow themselves to bti "drawn out "by men of the stamp of " Hamiltonian." It would be as well if they did not, in future, reply to anonymous writers, except in special cases. " Hamiltoniati's " is one of those. As the mail closes to-night, and it is now near closing time. I have not time to reply to his statements re the prosperous Protestant north, but T Durtms'j giv ; ng figures to show that Leinster and Munster are both more prosperous than "Protestant ITlster. It is a fact that the Protestants of Ireland in general, and the north in particular, are bv 110 means in favour of retaining tho Union. Out of thirty-three members for Ulster, seventeen are Home Rulers, and Londonderry, the very hotbed of Orancc ism, to its honour, be it said, returns a Roman Catholic and a Home Ruler, in the person of the great writer and historian, Justin McCarthy. I hope that any contraversy that nuy be carried 011 on this important subject will be characterised by temperate language and good feeling, for though we may not all think alike, surely we may "agree to differ."—Yours truly, R. W. Roche. Te Awamutu, Uth November, JBB9.
