ENTERTAINMENT AT OHAUPO.
A concert, followed by a dance, in aid of the funds of tho Ohaupo Public Library, was given in the Public Hall on Wednesday last. Unfortunately, the weather, which had been threatening for some time, turned out very unfavourable, so that in consequence," the attendance was rather small. Mr R. Mears occupied the chair, and opened the proceedings with some appropriate remarks, after which a first class programme was gone through in a satisfactory manuer judging by the frequent bursts of applause. The items which found mostfavour with the audience, were the_ two comic songs in character, by Mr Vause, eaeli of which was encored ; the song, " Quoeu of the Earth," by Mrs C. Hunter ; the trio, " Three Old Maids of Lee,' 1 in character, by Mrs \V. J. Hunter and the Misses Marshall ; song, " Loves Golden Dream," Miss Chappell ; while in, "The Stirrup Cup," Mr Burgess' fine bass voice was heard to advantage. The other items were almost all deserving of more than ordinary notice, but space will not permit us to do more than mention them as follows :—Pianofore duet, Misses Empen ami Edwards ; song, "Lovely Hose," Miss Taylor ; Vocal duet, " Sol l<'a," Miss Marshall and Mr Burgess; song, "Then You'll Remember Me," Mr Burrell ; song, " Apart." Miss Salmon ; song, " The Mill Wheel." (in German) Miss Krippner ; song, " Ever of Thee," Miss Cassidy ; song, " Thev All Love Jack," Mr O. Hunter; song, " The Parson and the Clerk," Mr Iv. S. Hunter. The accompaniments were played by Miss Lizzie Cassidy, Miss Empen, Messrs W. Patterson. H. Burrell and 11. T. Marshall. During the interval, Mr Mears, who appeared in regular Sundowner's costume, gave a recitation of the " Trials and Complaints of a Tramp on the Wallaby Track." which was well received. Tho second part of the programme was taken up with the farce, " Old Hunks, Lie Miser," the parts being taken by Mr .1. B. Murray as Old Hunks, Mr K. W. Mears as Harry, Old Hunk's son, while Mr T. Prince was a faithful representation of Tommy, Old Hunk's servant. Unfortunately the play, whiuli had been originally decided upon, could not be performed, so that there was not sufficient time to properly learn " Old Hunks." After the hall had been cleared, dancing commenced, and though there were not very many couples, still those that did " sport the light fantastic," appeared to enjoy themselves thoroughly.
