The Mararoa brought ninety passengers from Sydney this week, and only took away fifty, of whom only twentyfour were steerage. The Irish delegate arrived 011 Sunday. Professor Posnett, who was asked to take the chair at their public meetings, wroto declioingcm theground that hi "present position in New Zealand is distinoLlv non-political, but stated at I ho same time, " I sympathise, and always have sympathised with the moderate demands of my fellow-country-men for the reform of the land laws and for local self-government. John Kirkwood, wins and spirit merchant, examined in bankruptcy to-day, stated his total liabilities at £3.204 ; assets, ±11)138 ; deficiency, .123,205. His last balancesheet iu Juno, 1887, showed £2,4'J8 to the good. The causo of failure was deproceation of property and a falling-off in business. His losses in bad debts had been £2,000 in three years. The Rev. Dr. O'Callaghan has tendered his resignation as pastor of Epiphany Church, Newton, having accepted a call to St. Guorcs's Anglican Church, Thames. He leaves for that place early next month.
