STRUGGLE FOR LIFE WITH A MADMAN.
A TERRIFIC struggle with a madman is reported from Indianapolis. When Dr. Calvin I. Fletcher entered Georgeßoest'sdrug store one clay he found a maniac pursuing the proprietor with a gleaming knife. The madman had been smashing bottles and screaming murder when Boest attempted to restrain him. It was then that the fellow turned upon him with the knife. The druggist ran into a back room, but maniac threw himself against the door and easily broke it open. As he was rushing upon Boest, Dr. Fletcher called to him to stop. The maniac turned and made a dash towards the doctor, who dropped down and, catching the madman by the knees, threw him to the floor, Before he could arise the knife had been taken from him. He was placed in the doctor's buggy to be taken to prison. On the way he attempted to choke the physician, and a struggle for life was in progress, with the doctor almost exhausted, when a blacksmith came to the rescue, and the crazy man was put behind the bars. His name is Adolph Hoot, and business reverses had made him violently insane.
