— ♦ Wesleyan Home Mission.—The annual meeting in connection with the home mission work of the Wesleyan Church, was held here on Friday evening last, the Rev. Mr Taylor being present. .Mr Elliot occupied the chair and, prayer having been offered and a hymn sung, read the report of the society for the past year. It was of an interesting character and dealt, with the work of those engaged both in the European and Maori field of labour. Mr Elliot then proceeded to address the meeting upon the importance of the work done in the mission field and its beneficial results, not only to those on whose behalf it was undertaken, but also to the workers themselves, for whatever the result might be, a blessing would attend their efforts. The Rev. Mr Taylor stated he had the greatest sympathy with the home mission work, which was one of the most important efforts of the Wesleyan Church, of whom a great preacher had said that " Wesleyanism was Christianity in earnest," and that " they had the world for their parish." After bringing forward many illustrations in favour of religious effort and describing the high position all those nations held in the world whose people were of a serious turn of mind and whose piety was their chief glory, he drew their attention to the immediate wants of the mission and requested their cheerful support of the same. The reverend gentleman was listened to with great attention, and his address was a most interesting one. Various hymns were sung during the evening, Miss Wallis kindly presiding at the harmonium. FLAX.—Mr Bregman has leased from Government the land adjacent to the Aotea harbour, and is proceeding to erect a flax mill there, making one more to the large number of mills running here. The steamer is expected to-day with the machinery for the Coast flax mill which has been waiting at Onehunga for some time, easterly weather being required for its landing on the coast.
