MR BRYCES CANDIDATURE.

Our Whatawhata correspondent wiites:— Tho rcquisilion to Mr Bryce is being largely signed, and it is with a feeling of satisfaction and relief that the electors know that so good a inan can be obtained to represent them. It was certainly a wise and patriotic impulse which prompted those electors who lirst approached Mr Bryce. The Waipa electoiate and the colony badly need tho se-vices of the best men, and apart from other advantages we should have in Mr Bryce a leader unconnected with any section of the district, and under whose flag wo may all'unite for our common good. None but the kindliest feelings are expressed for poor Major Jackson, who was one of the fast-disappearing land marks of old Waikat", and his kind and generous disposition, particularly shown to the poorer and humbler members of society, will be long remembered.

Our Raglan correspondent writes:—Requisition forms, requeuing Mr Juhn Bryce to com) forward as a candidate for the Waipa election, have been leceived, and, I believe, will be signed by most of the electus who have the opportunity of doing so, as all must surely be of the opinion that if we could secure the services of "Honest .John," we shall be will served, and ret irn to Par'.i imeut a mm who should never have been absent from tho delibcrati in of tint body. Many also think it would ho well if ho would be permitted to holil the p isition the present Premier holds, and th.it it would lie the best t'liug for the colony at the present time.

A lenli.ig re>i lent of Alexandra says in a private letter : I hope Bryce is s mud on railway an 1 property-'.ax-reform. IL» i< head and shoulders above all our pub ic men for unswerving rectitude and li >ue»t? of pHfvo-e. Wehivebajn hitherto unfort mi to in our choice, of member.-, and t>o much imooi t tnce h .s bei.il made of local matters.''

.Mr I'. lviy, of ri iw >hi i, siys:— Jo,lll Di'Vej is ;*:iy () iver Cromwell ; 1 would willingly oxc'iinge our present (loser'anient tor him as l)i:tat>r. No one can beat liiin. lln Ido not knoiv, but in Wellingt m I think he is not wanted by the Ciut Service or the. (iovernment. A locil in m, where is he? We have. none. For real reform we must have Biyce; whatever lie d-.os you will Hu 1 in c.ijolling about, it.

Wj Ikivo alrealv received soino complete requisitions from c rintry liistric's which contain 0110 hundred and twenty-live signatures. Applications for more forms have been made by tliosj who favour Mr llryce's election, and who are working to support his ciudidatire. Tnero is every probability of a very largo requisition being obtained by the time all the lists are to hand. to Tin-: Humus. Sin,—As my name lias been publicly mentioned in connection with the ensuing election, permi- me to make a few remarks on the subject. It will simplify matters if 1 s.iy at once that Lam not a camliil.it: for the seat. 1 congratulate the, electors and the c il.my on till! fact that Mr John ISryce lias been aske Ito coutu-t the seat. We all know that lie is a man of high peis mal character, an able administr.it ir and f ivourable to financial reform. In sendi ti» him to the House we shall do s luiethiug r.o improve the tone and elevate the character of the Legislature. Hut with all his g rpia'i'ijs I think it would be u:i .vis i to ace -j»t him without a full expression of his opinions on the great questions no v promineiitly before tlio people. May 1 suggest fir hi-i approval the following pr- il'imii] ue : —1. Til;! immediate repeal of th • IVi'p.irtyt<\ *. as revenue cannot be raised iu a more übjec'i.maiilo form, nor in a way hi ire tie tru. tive to the bes-, intere-ts of th i colon v. •J. A radical reform iu our systo n of working th s railway*. so til it they will creaLo and promot i s ttlemeut on the I iu I. ;i. A more compre!ieu-.ivo anj effective system of local go.-crament. J. A fnith'i substintial reduction in the cost of the Ci.il Servic; by the amalgam iti--n and c'iHoli iati"ii of nfjices. o. That forther railway otten •ion cease until funds are available out of revenue ; this clause not to apply to unfinished lines, for which funds have bean already voted. We ought to have duliniti answers to these qui'sti ms before we adopt Mr Bryco, or any oilier man. That he will be an able and iifluential representative is an ad.ii'.i mal reason why his opinions should be iu harmony with the electors. The rep.uil of the Property-fcix is the most important 1 question now beforo the people. The plea of Major Atkinson, that lie cinuot get revenue otherwise, is futile, let him substitute an Income-tax, a tixon unimproved land held for speculative purposes, and reduce the cost of the Civil Service, and the money will be there. If these reforms are cirried out, I believe the colony will entei on a new career of prosperity. —I am, yours truly. J. D. Hill, Alexandra, loth October, ISW.
