LATEST WELLINGTON NEWS.
|BY TELEGRAPH.— PRESS ASSOCIATION'.] Wellington, Monday. Wm. Irvine, second engineer of the steamer Lindus, was committed for trial for perjury during a charge of assault recently heard here. The only true bill so far at the Supreme Court is against Edward Mclutosli, accused of being concerned in an assault and robbery on a passenger by the Tarawera who was on his way to Nelson. Prisoner was given the option, under the Act of last session, of going into the box and giving evidence, but declined, on the ground that he had already embodied what he had to say in his statement read in the lower court. A verdict of guilty was returned, and sentence was deferred.
