DISTRICT OF WAIKATO HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARDS.

The usual monthly meeting of the above Board was hold in the Hamilton Borough Council Chambers, at 11.30 a.m. yesterday. There were present: .Messrs I'rioirose (chairman), Seddin, Teasdale, Chepmell, Hunter, Sandes, and von Stunner. The minutes of the last meeting were confirmed, and the outward correspondence read and adopted. Ericimkn. —The Secretary wrote to the Auckland Board, asking whether they would pay Mrs Eriek«en's faro back to Auckland, as she wished to return, and received a reply stating that they would not pay the fare nor any expenses incurred on her behalf. The chairman said that Mrs Ericksen had lived in Auckland for some timo, but had come back, her husband was now living at Ngaruawahia, and she had sued him for her support. It was decided to grant only one ration per day to Mrs Ericksen, until she should return ts Auckland. Lkask. —Mr T. K. Davidson applied to know the conditions on which ho held the Hospital endowment at Mangapiko.—Mr Teasdale said that Mr Davidson wished to give up or for the Board to grant him an extension of his lease to seven or ten years. The land, as far as he could judge, was not the value of the rent paid in comparison with the value of similar land in the neighbourhood. —The Chairman said that MiDavidson must pay the rent now due. If he then made representation to the Board they would then consider what they could do. Destitute. —The Auckland Board reported that John Lingard, a destitute person, who had lived in Hamilton East for three years, but who arrived in Auckland in June, had applied for medical aid and food. Lingard was being attended by .I >r. Bell, who certified that lie was suffering from tuberculosis, and was unable to work. Tho Auckland Board also reported that Chas. Morris, with his family, were being granted temporary relief. This family had lived in Te Awamutu for fifteen years, hut had como to Auckland in May last, and Dr. Lawry reported that Mrs Morris was far gone in consumption, and the husband was under treatment in the Hospital. Mrs Morris applied that the Board's medical ollicer may visit her at her house. Jackson.—Dr. Murch stated that, acting on instructions from the chairman, he had visited Jackson, at Taupiri, and found him suffering from cancer in the stomach. —On the recommendation of the Chairman, the secretary was empowered to grant him relief, through Mr T. H. White, to the extent of 5s per week. Oi'KitATiNG Tam.k.—Messrs Arnold and Son wrote, stating that any expense incurred in repairing the oporating table would be refunded. ivKaiil.N'ATlON.—The following letter was received from Dr. Kenny :—" [ beg to thank your Board for their courteous answer forwarded to me by your Hoard's secretary on tho oth of September. Finding that under present circumstances [ can not accomplish the work of your institution satisfactorily, f most respectfully beg to tender your Hoard my resignation, and beg to ask your Board to kindly accept one month's notice, instead of three. — 1 have the honour to be, Sir, your obedient servant, Guo. (J Kbn.vv, M.8., Surgeon Supt., Waikato District Hospital.— Mr Chepmel I said they could not take the short notice as they could not possibly get in applications by next meeting, but they could take it oil condition that Dr. Kenny would remain until his successor should be appointed. Ho then moved that the Hoard accept the resignation, and that the Secretary inform Dr. Kenny that the Board are willing to relieve him as soon as they can appoint a successor. Seconded by Mr Teasdale and carried.

Mkihcal Sekvichs.— Mr Teas-dale moved that the consideration of taking steps to fill the vacancy and of fixing the doctor's salary be deferred to next meeting. Seconded by Mr Hunter and lost, the proposer and seconder alone voting for the motion. Mr von Stunner moved that the doctor's whole time be devuted to tho service of the Hospital. In seconding the motion, Mr Chepmel! said that they had received Dr. Kenny's resignation because he could not attend to the Hospital and private practice. It might not bo necessary at present to appoint a medical officer solely for the Hospital, but it shortly would bo and he thought that the appointment had better be made now to prevent any alterations.— Mr Teasdale said lie did not think it was necessary to have a doctor solely for the Hospital as the working of the institution appeared to be satisfactory under the present arrangements. He therefore moved as an amendment that the doctor be allowed private practice within a radius of three miles.—Seconded bv Mr Hunter. The amendment was put and lost, the voting being :—For : Messrs Teasdale and Hunter. Against: The Chairman and Messrs Sandes, Seddon, Chepinell and von Stunner. The original motion was then put and carried, the voting being vice versa.—Mr Seddon moved that applications lie called for a medical ollicer at a salary of £100 per annum with £o0 house rent until a residence is provider! by the Hoard. — .Mr Teasdale moved as an amendment that this question be deferred to next meeting, unless the Chairman think it necessary t> call a special meeting, — Seconded by Mr Hunter and lost.—Mr Chepmell moved as a further amendment that a special meeting be held on Thursday, the 10th, to consider the question of fixing the medical officer's s-ilary.—Seconded by Mr Sandes and carried unanimously.

A Mrs liricks-.n, formerly belonging to this district, mid whose railway fare was paid by the Auckland Board to Ngaruawahia, arrived here iu a destitute condition, on the 13th inst. She stated that she had come up for the purpose of summoning her husband (who lives at Ngaruawahia) for maintenance, and as tho C nut would not sit until the Ist October, I authorised her temporary relief from the 17th nit. to the end of the month at the rate of one ration per diem. I regret tn inform you that the fever ward was re-opened on the 30th ult. for the admission of two cases of typhoid fever (Hobbs' brothers) from Tunahere. The following amounts have liee.ii received and paid into the bank since the last meeting of the Board, viz : Hospital feos, £15 17s ; interment do., £2 7s (id ; and voluntary contribution, ss; total, £18 9s (id. The accounts for the year terminating 31st March, 1889, were audited by the Government auditor (Major Tisdall) on the 7th nit., and are laid on the table for the information of the Board.—The report was adopted, with the exception of the portion with regard to the extension of the buildings.
