SAD DEATH OF A BOY.

Wk regret to announce the accidental death ~f Mervyn Hume, six years of age, son of Mr James Hume, manager of the Bank of New Zealand, Hamilton. This sad occurrence took place on Saturday morning last, under the following distressing circumstances : —It seems he was with Mrs Humo in the kitchen at about 11 o'clock 111 the forenoon, and was sent to look for his little sifter, who was upstairs at the time, and who came down almost immediately, appaiently at his request. Within a very short time the baby began to cry, and the nursegirl was sent up by Mrs Hume for the ehild,"on returning, she told Mrs Home, that just as she turned to leave the bedroom she noticed Mervyn in a chair in the corner, apparently asleep. As the time was so short since the boy had left her, Mrs Hume, became alarmed, and at once hurried to the room fearing that something was the matter Her fears were too true; she found her little snn, in endeavouring to reach something, it U supposed, from the drawers, had placed one of the ordinary carpet folding chairs against the client of drawers, and in standing on it had in some way overturned it and in falling was caught below the rung and the back of the chair, and thereby suddenly and fat dly injuring himself. It must have been instantaneous, as there was no sign of any struggle, either apparent in the position he was found 111—his hands were lying quite naturally over Ilia rung of the chair -or in the expression of his features, which were calm and pleasant t» look upon, and ft* natural as though ho wore quietly sleeping. Dr. Murch, who was across the street, was quickly brought in, and Dr. Kenny was also sent for and soon arrived on the spot. Kvery effort to restore animation failed. An inqnest was held during the afternoon when the jury passed a verdict of Accidental death." The child was a tine interesting boy and his loss, under such distressing circumstances, was a great shock to the parents and other members of the fann.y, for whom great sympathy is felt by the community, as was evidenced by the very lan'e attendance ;.t the funeral on Sunday.
