With the object of making an effort to obtain a reduction of rental for soctions of this description to £1 per annum. a deputation waited on Mr Warden Northcroft a week or two ago, and presented a petition praying His Worship to do what he could in the matter, and bring to an issue, once for all, a matter which is stultifying the interests of the people living in the place, and retarding the progress of the district. After explaining how matters stood, Mr Northcroft promised to let the deputationists know by next Court day whether or not he could accede to their wishes. Meanwhile this action on the pait of the occupiers baa raised a dark, if not threatening cloud.
