HAMILTON ANNIVERSARY.
The twenty-fifth anniversary of the occupation of Hamilton by the 4th Waikato Regiment, under Capt. Steele, was celebrated with due honours yesterday. The day was observed as a public holiday, the business places being closed, and a largo gathering of inhabitants took place on Sydney Square. The Union Jack was flying from several flag staffs in the town. At about half-past eleven the members of tho old 4th Waikato Regiment were photographed in a group by Captain Reid and Mr W. De.v, in the Waikato Cour.ty Council grounds, and we believe it is intended to follow out a suggestion made by Colour-Sergeant Knox, to have the pictme enlarged, and a copy placed in the Hamilton Borough Council offices. A little before 12 o'clock tho Hamilton Light Infantry paraded at the Volunteer Hall, under Captain Reid, Lieutenants Kirk and Pearson, there being about fifty of all ranks present. Headed by their band they were marched across the river, and, before proceeding to Sydney Squaro, were photographed as a company 111 column, and also in square of four deep, for receiving cavalry, by Mr Dey. Tho company were then marched to Sydney Square, and the 4th Waikatos having fallen in under their old officers, Capts. Steele and McPlierson, and Dr. Carey, were received with a general salute from the Hamilton Light Infantry, the latter company being afterwards inspected by Capt. Steele. The 4th Waikatos were then drawn up in lino, and the Volunteers marched past, saluting the veterans in doing so. On dismissing, the members of the 4th Waikato proceeded to plant each an oak tree, the trees being numbered and a record kept of the name of tho planter. The following are the names and rank of the members °<>E the 4th Waikato Regiment on parade:—Capt. Steele, Capt. McPlierson, Dr. Carey, Colour-Sergt. Knox, Sergt. Delaney, Sergt. Crosby, Sergt.
