HOSPITAL EXPENSES.
TO THE EOITOIi. Slß,—Will the Hospital Board kindly state through tho medium wf your paper if it is tsruc that the Waiknto Hospital is the most expensive in New Zealand with one exception ; also give their reason for the pro posed increase in the doctor's salary from £300 to £100 per annum. Surely the ratepayers ought to be apprised before such a step is taken. It seems that tho object of tho Board is to increase the salaries of all the officials, and nat only that out tmikt a hous'.i for the doctor. Do any of them know how difficult it i:; for the majority of tho ratepayers to muke both ends meet under tho existing depression ? Retrenchment is the order of the day, and 1 think wo ought not to rush into expenses until they have been carefully considered.—Yours (J, I?. Anduew. i
