THE WAIKATO HOSPITAL
Ouu Cambridge correspondent writes : The inhabitants of this neighbourhood are greatly incensed at the proposal to raise J3r. Kenny's s:itary, and wherever you go that is sure 11 be the topic nf conversation. Ihe titnes |are so bad find taxation .so heavy, that it is useless to attempt to that the doctor will not be so well ojf with £400 and |<nve up his private practice, ys he is j under the present arrangement. It is quite sufficient for the ratepayers to know that it means a fraction of a penny more for them to pay. On Saturday quite a number of small indignation meetings were held in the street, and as one of the four delegates, who voted for the doctor's services being retained solely for the Hospital, was in the town, he had rather a rough time. _ You ; may imaginp the pitch to which the indignation has risen, when I tell you that one of our local J.P.'s swore in a most hearty manner about the proposed increase not on the Book in the orthodox manner which is an entirely new departure for him. If our delegates vote for the increase, I am afraid they will find their claims jumped when the next election conies round.
