Auckland, Friday. JostAU Cl.ib'TON Ftiith, wilier, filed a petition to be adjudged a bankrupt tins afternoon. A deputation consisting of the i\ev. ALr Mas..n, Messrs Ewington and Garlick and Mrs Schnackenborg and Mis Main, waited on the Board of Education this afternoon re teaching temperance principles in the schools. After Mr Garlick had spoken Mr Upton said that the matter must be deferred until the return of Mr Goldie who had moved for the Inspector's report. He wished the deputation distinctly to understand that the subjects of education were regulated by law, not by the Board. Mr Cooper said that the feeling of the Board was not to withdraw from the committees the power to introduce temperance teaching at their option. On Mr Upton's motion the matter was adjourned.
