GENERAL GORDON 1.0. G.T. LODGE, CAMBRIDGE.
T»K Good Templars ef Cambridge hold, wliiit is called an "open lodge" on Monday evening. Tlie meeting took place in the Oddfellow's Hall which was tilled, not only liy total abstainers but also by many of the opposite persuasion. The members of the Lodge, in their regalia, were upon the plat form, among whom were the Revs. G. (). Griffiths, C. H. Garland and W. Evans, each of whom made speeches in their respective styles. Pastor Griffiths came out strong on the licensing laws, and contended that it was unfair to license only three people to sell intoxicating drink ; that if these were to sell it all should be allowed to do so. His speech was a red hot prohibition one, and bristled with serpents, adders and even saurian monsters. The Rev. 0. H. Garland's was a persuasive speech that appealed to one's better feelings, and the Rev. Evans told several funny and appropriate anecdotes in his own peculiar way which caused great laughter. The following was the programme of music, &e. -.—Piano duet, "The Nacicotise," the Misses Maxwell; vocal duet, "Indian Warrior's Grave," the Misses Gltfimy; recitation "The Grog-seller's Vov/," Urn. Chambers; song, "I am Cuiding You Home," Mrs Glenny ; recitation, "Bingen on The Rhine," Miss J. McNeish ; violin duet, "Norma," Miss and Master M. Nixon ; song, " Dear Father Come Home," Miss Kincaid : comic -song (in character)' "Wedding Bells," Miss F. Maxwell; fife solo, Master Stewart; reading, "Ralph's Repentance," Mrs Gerrish ; song, "Thy Voice is Near Me," Mrs Glonny ; recitation, Mabel R. Carnachan ; piano "duet, " The Sleigh Race," the Misses Nixon. " Bingen on the Rhino" was excellently rendered by Miss McNeish. Miss Maxwell's comic song was encored and she substituted "Never Again." MrsUerrish's reading was too long. Prizes were presented to Jennie McNeish for singing, Charley Stewart for music, and Robert Carnachan for reciting during the past half year. The performers were thanked by Bro. .r. Bright in a lengthy speech, and the meeting broke up.
