PAINFUL ACCIDENT.
Ml! R. W. Saikiunt, jeweller, of Cambridge, met with a nasty accident yesterday, that will incapacitate him for a cmaidei'idjle time, 110 has a vault into which at night he lowers his valuables and it is covered by a very strong iron lid. About 8 a.m. yesterday Mr Sargent opened the lid and was about to pull up the cage containing jewellery, &e., when the lid suddenly fell. In attempting to stop it he somehow got his foot in the way and it was jammed between the lid and the casing, crushing it in a frightful manner, and holding him fast. He called loudly for help, and the neighbours quickly came and extricated him. He was conveyed home, where Dr. Waddington attended him. The injury was so serious that he had to administer chloroform while he examined the wound, in which he was assisted by Dr. 11. Moon. We trust Mr Sargent may speedily recover, but fear it will bo months before he will be able to attend to his business .Kjnin,
