There is a panic at Delagoa Bay over the action of the Portuguese in interfering with the railway. Lord Salisbury is negotiating with the Portuguese Government. The Press advocates arbitration. France and llussia have refused assent to the Egyptian Convention. France has resumed parleying on the Egyptain question. Prince Bismarck says, so long as parliamentary help is withheld, the welfare of German colonies will not be promoted by the investment of capital as a commercial enterprise. The Shah of Persia lias arrived in Loudon. Air O'Brien,, ft! P., who was recently discharged from custody, has been again arrested for a seditious j speech delivered at Tipperary, and released on bail. A. J. Lane, M.P. for Cork East, has been arrested for complicity with Air O'Brien. While effecting the lattcr's arrest, the police were compelled to fire on the crowd; and two persons were wounded. It is rumoured that Sir G. Chetwynd will resign his msmbership of the Jockey Club. The opinion prevails that the award was designed to shield Chetwynd from public disgrace, and much sympathy is felt for Lord Durham. The annual cricket match between Oxford and Cambridge Universities was won by the latter in one innings with 105 runs to spare. Biddings at the wool sales to-day were animated and prices were firm.
