A GRIEVANCE.

to xhk Knrroit. Silt,—Seeing an advertisement in Thk Waikato TuiEti, calling for tenders for the maintenance of the main road for the ivirikiriroa Road Board, I went over tho work and made a careful estimate of the cost of keeping it in Rood order, and sent in my tender for £53. For some reason the tender was not road at the meeting of the Board, although it can be proved that the clerk to tho Board received my tender in due time. The Board threw out Kelly's tender, as he was not a ratepayer, and accepted a tender at £50 15s. There was a difference of Jt'li 15s between my tender and Crosby's. Now, Sir, as the clerk is only a public servant, and is paid for his services out of tho ratepayers' money, has he the right to hold my tender in his pocket so as to ei\e the preference to another man? Do the ratepayers think it fair that they should have to pay an extra farthing in the pound to make up the £(i 15s for Crosby. It is tho opinion of a great many of the ratepayers that it was no use any man tendeiing; but Crosby and they have good reason to believe it now. As it may be explained sometime, [ would like to ask, Are tho chairman and clerk sura that they did not open my tender before the meeting;, for reasons best known to themselves, on the 7th instant"?— Yours truly, C. VoWLKSM. Hamilton, June 11th, 1SS!).
