NEWCASTLE ROAD BOARD.

A si'KCIAL meeting of the Newcastle Road Board was held on Thursday, at the office of the Board. Present ; Messrs Gorboy, Corbott, and Bycroft. Mr Gorboy was elected chairman for the year. Tho minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. The correspondence sent and received having been read, Mr Li minor's account for work done at Salmon's hill, amounting to £1-1 Os !>d was passed for payment,

Liji.mkk'k Contract.—A question having been asked if Mr Limmer had called for his cheque as passed by the R'ard for work done on Mr Corbett's road, Mr Bycroft stated ho had informed Mr Dimmer of tlie particulars of the Board's decision as to the payment for his work on this road, lie further stated that since then lie found that a report had been cinulated, that there was no specification for this work, but that it was let verbally by Air Corbetfc. Mr Corbott replied that such a report was just as simple as it was untruthful, as the specification at the ofh'ce would testify, and that such a report must do more harm than {food to tlio party who expected to benefit by it. It was resolved that as Mr Limtner did not accept or decline the oiler made by the Hoard through Mr liycroft, the olprk should write to Mr Liminer and inform liim ollicially of the Board's decision in regard to this work. Katk.—ft was resolved to advertise the Hoard's intention to make a rate of one halfpenny in the£. for the current year. Wohks—lt was resolved that tho consideration of tho works to be undertaken bo lefr. over tor next meeting of the Hoard. Cl.KitK, ktc— It whs resolved that William .Tones bo retained as clerk, collector, etc, tnthcßoard for the current year. Notiuk of Motion.—Mr liycroft gave notice, to move at the next meeting of the Hoard that the resolution fixing the so-'ond Thursday in each month for the meetings of the board be rescinded, and that in lieu thereof, tho monthly meetings of the Board be held on the second Wednesday in each month in future, at 2 o'clock, p.in. The Board then rose.
