Patorangi v. Te Awamutu.
Tho football match between teams representing Paterangi and Te Awamutu as previously notified, cams oil on Satnriny m one of Mr Germaim's paddocks. Ihe weather being all that could be desired, allowed a gowd number of spectators to be present, amoncr which were a great many of the fair sex. The following are tho-e who ilid battle for their respective sides :- Piterangi: O. McFarlane (capt.), Kusalu C) Marshall, Walsh, Morgan, backs; Miles, Reid, Ryburn (2), Mackey. Xomsh, Klwoiid, Cowloy and .Suiiin.ens, forwards. Te Awamutu: Corbi.y (ca;>t.), (iaudui, Hume, Alexander, Cunningham, backs; Cowley, Buck, Bockett, May, bibley, Holden and (iarmonsway, forwards. Messrs Orierson and McFarluie acted as umpires, while Mr Graham filled the capacity of referee The game commenced soon after three o'clock, Te Awamutu playing 12 men only. Paterangi having tho wind at their bick, penned their opponents pretty well about their twenty-live, when from a smart rush the oval crossed the goal line A. Kusabs failing to touchdown, and Spoforth Ryburn secured it, the place kick adding nothin" to the score. Soon after this a goal was kicked direct (mm the field by Cowley. In the second spell, Te Awamutu having the wind in their favour, had decidedly the best of tho game, but without result. When no side was colled, the game stood thus: I'atovangi, 1 goal 1,3), 1 u-y (U; le Vwamutu, nil. Although the game, was a hard fuuelit and a fast our, the host of feeling prevailed throughout, rendering the duties of the umpires and referee light and easy The forwards nil played fairly well, if playing h ird is a criterion, but being out of condition-as were also all the banksand having to pl.iy :i fast game under the new rules, rather lacked in following up. In the backs. IMoran-i in.u'.i-. n.. l.nHiaui individual display of football, but all played a fairly good comhmed game; for Te Awamutu, (iaudin (Hamilton), and C'orboy were very conspicuous, and did really good and useful woik for tlu-ir side, otherwise it would have been a m-ie walk over for Pater.ingi, their good kicking tellin" greatly in their favour. After the usual complimentary cheers, tho crowd dispersed. Tho return match will be played at Te Awamutu on June Ist.
