HAMILTON LIGHT INFANTRY.

Tun first competition for the medal* presented to the above corps by .Mr H. Howden took place on Saturday. The day was an unfavourable one for shooting, a high wind blowing "cross the range ttc whole time. For a .steady wind an allowance can, of conrs- always be made, but when coming in .rusts as on Saturday it necessitates an alteration in the point of aim for each shot, and this renders steady shooting very difhculfc. The conditions were : five shots at L'OO 300 and 400 yards ; no sighters; tarsets, 13 x 4 at 200 and 300 yards, and C> x (. at -100 yards, diametor of bull, inner and magpie as laid down in the New Zealand Rifle Association's rules. Three matches have to be fired to decide the winner, the hiWmst aggregate scorer in these to take the gold, and the next highest the silver medal The squad on Saturday was in command e> Colour-Sergeant Pearson, and the marker s butts in charge of Vol. J.
