CAMBRIDGE BOROUGH COUNCIL
A si'rcr'i.w. meeting of the abovo Council was held in the Borough Office on Tuesday, at 1i.30 p.m., to certify to tho corieotnoss or otherwise of the burgess roll. Present: Tho Mayor (Mr Clements, Crs. H. Webber, J. Young, A. Bach, an J H. Clillett. There being nn objections ;on the motion nf Cr. (Jillett, seconded by Cr. Bach, Crs. Webber and ISach were authorised to sign tho roll in conjunction with tho Mayor, and the roll was adopted, as the one" for the year ISS9 00. Ordinary Meeting. The same councillors wore present, and also Crs. Bond and Richardson. The minutes of the previous meeting wero read and confirmed. fcjKATINO Kink.—The bond had been prepared that the proprietors of tho skating rink was required to .sign, and four names had been submitted which were approved of by the Council. The amount realised on the opening night was 235, which the promoters had handed over to tho Council. A Novkl limoa.—The Sydenham Council forwarded a resolution they had prepared, which they wished the Cambridge Council to adopt, requesting the Government to enable local authorities to insure buildings, ifec, within their districts, and the rates to be made liable. The letter was received after soino discussion. Thk Salvation Aini\'.--Capt. L)uggan wrote, asking to have the use of the Public Hall for 12s 0d on Sundays and 10-? on other evenings.—Cr. Gillett thought they would be better off if they refused to let the Army have the hall. On Monday evening there was a great crowd in the hall and also upon the stage, and he was informed the scenery was damaged.—The Clerk said the officers would not allow anyone to leave the hall during speaking or praying, which led to a very disgusting result.—lt was finally resolved not to entertain the application for a reduction. Thohnton Ro.vn.-Mrs Hill, nf Salthurst, wrote, asking to have the drainage of the io id near her house improved. Referred to Works Committee. Lost Laddku. —No tidings having been received re the ladder that is missing, it was resolved to place the matter in the hands of the police. Thk OvKimitAi'T.—Tho overdraft at date is £1)07 7s 3 i, which must be very near the limit. Works Committke.— The report of the Works Committee was to the elfectthat 191 loads of gravel had been put on Brewerystreet ; 172 on Queen-street, and 21)3 loads on Victoria-street. Total, (ioli yards costing £28 14s. A culvert had been erected at tha corner of Kirkwood and Brewerystreets, the balance of the surfaceman's time had been filled up in cleaning the water channels. Scant OouiiTiMV.—We are unable to give the remainder of tho business as it was done in committee, and the reporter were requested to retire. We may, however, bo able to give it in our next unless, the councillors were sworn to secrecy.
