HAMILTON TOWN CLERK.
TO r.HH EDITOR. Slit,—l observe in tin 1 , local column of Saturday's issue that Councillor Knox is about to propose that the salary of the new clerk to the borough be i'SO, and it is rumoured that the. attendance at the office will be only three days each week - . It is not very long since that this Councillor was heard to openly express himself to the effect that the clerk's salary should be increased from fcl.'iO to t'L'OO per annum, yet in the face of that he now proposes it be reduced to t.SO. Will this Councillor, this Hamilton BMnaiek, explain to the Council to-night why tin- salary should bo reduced, and only half the time allowed to do the duties? C mncillor Knox has evidently been sei/.ed with some brilliant idea. Ts it that ho would like to become the patron of the new clerk, and at the same time to get credit for reducing the expenditure? If the majority of the councillors cannot see through this Councillor's vagaries, many of the burgesses can clearly perceive what his intentions are, but that is all they can do at present.—l am, etc., yours truly, E. Wu.soa.
