RAGLAN COUNTY COUNCIL.
TO T/IK KDITOH. Si!!,—l observe that the Raglan County Council have called for tenders fur three bridges, and being of an enquiring turn of mind, L have ascertained that tlio bridge over tin: Waimii is to spin it stream wliero there is at present a splendid level stoney ford which is likely to last, am! would do fur all time. Yet this bridge is likely to he erected, as it is on thu road leading to the chaii man's residence, though then-, are numberless other places within the Ivarioi riding where the money is uiycntly req'liied to be spent in order to mak-3 the mad.-, passable. The second bridge is intended to be erected over the Whangape outlet near the end of the ditches to which I referred in a former communication, and is nut likely to be of much service to anyone except une gentleman whoso land lies on either sido of the outlet. The third bridge is proposed to be built over the Opuntia stream, and appears to have been thought of merely because the engineer, on the question being put to him, replied, that he believed the native rates could be spent on its erection. I am credibly informed that the ratepayers in the Onewhero riding have never been consulted in the matter, and, feeling the want of anything like roads in the riding, consider the money ought to be spent in opening up some of the tracks so that they may get about with a small amount of comfort. These tluv.o jobs tell in most unmi.stakeablo terms the character of the present councillors, and the ratepayers will no doubt remember them at the first election. Hoping that I may have no more such works to record, but announcing my determination to do so, with your kind permission.—l am, yours. &c, Oi;sj;hvkk.
