VISIT OF THE CHIEF RAILWAY COMMISSIONER.
« (BY iKLKUKAFH.—OWN COKUESPON'DENT.) Auckland, Monday. Mil McKkkhow's visit to Auckland is for the purpose of inspecting the various railway lines of the district with a view to meeting the wishes of the settlers interested mid receiving any suggestions from them. This morning Mr Mitehelson and Mr McKerrow visited Messrs Gulliver and Hett's office, and were shown a new invention intented for use as a railway window sash. Tho visitors were interested in the invention, aud promised that the Railway Department would make a further examination of the patent with a view to its adoption if approved. At noon Messrs Mitchelson and McKerrow left for the Thames to meet the Thames people with reference to railway construction and extension. From the Thames they will proceed to Te Aroha, tlience to Kotorua via tho Waiteti viaduct. It is intended to make an examination of the eoimfry beyond Oxford with a view to a possible extension of t!)Q railway to a point within fifteen miles of Rotorua so as to expedite the movements of tourists and utilise the railway so far as is already completed. Mr McKerrow expects to return to Auckland about Thureday or Friday next, and then he will make a thorough inspection of tho local department.
