TE AROHA

Golden Grown.—A meeting of shareholders of this syndicate was held at the Hot Springs Hotel, on Tuesday evening ; present: Messrs Smith, Gallagher, Ed wards, Don, and Rowe. It was stated that the contract for driving 150 feet has been completed, and as it is almost beyond doubt, the reef is closo at hand, it was resolved to call for tenders for driving another 50 feet. Erratic Tenderinc,.—The other day tenders were received for painting the Te Arnha West Public School, tin highest tender being £13 (is Sd ; the lowest, that of Mr J. G. Blaikie, of Auckland. £(> 18s, being accepted. The terms of the contract aro pretty strict, white lead must be used, and it must be either Scott or Champion's pure lead, and should any rain specs appear, these must be obliterated by a fresh coat at the contractor's expense. A fine of ill will be imposed, should the job not be finished within a month. Mr Blaikio will have to be very careful, if ho is to mako money from this job. Things are cut very fine here, both in the painting and printing tradus. Mining Matters.—Although there js nothing of a startling character to record in mining in this particular district, it is satisfactory to know that from many of the claims opened up, there are now ready for treatment at the Waiorongomai works, valuable parcels of ore. This is particularly applicable to the Champion lode, from which, as I am informed by Mr Clem. Cornes, there is any quantity of splendidlooking stuff ready fur the mill.
