Pkesentation.—Several members and friends »f B. Mark's Church having ascertained that their esteemed pastor, the Rev. Mr Marshall, would prefer not having a testimonial presented to him on his departure to Ellerslie, thought they could not do less than make up a small purse of sovereigns for the organi.it. Miss Amy Marshall. The presentation was made to Miss Marshall on Monday evening by Mr Snialen, who, on behalf of the subscribers, in a few appropriate words, thanked her for having presided at the oigan, and conveyed their best wishes for her happiness. Plying fob Hike.—On Tuesday afternoon, shortly before the train arrived, Constable Wild made ati official visit to tho railway station, outside of which were thre<omnibuses, one landau and an express, all vehicles being for public hire. The object of the constable's visit was to ascertain if they were all duly licensed in accordance with a receut Government regulation, a copy of which, (measuring by the way about 3 by 2 inches) can be found by searching amongst the other notices stuck up inside the station. So far, the constable has only taken down the names of the owners and the description of the vehicles. No one appears to be quite clear about this new Government instruction, but the general rendering of it is that no vehicle plying for hire shall be allowed to stand on Government ground unless a license fee is paid for tho privilege. Considering that the public under prosent arrangements can step dry footed from tho railway carriage to the omnibus, it looks like black mailing to charge the proprietors for providing this convenience. Were they to withdraw altogether, the public would soon find tl'o inconvonionoe, and tho road from tho station to tho town is not yet asphalted, and in tho winter time is ouo of tho worst for pedestrians. ..
