There were present : Messrs Gallagher (chairman), K'-iert, Mills and Heathcoto. The minutes :jf the last ordinary meeting were read and confirmed, and inward correspondence was read, amongst which was a letter from .Mr Sperry, Property-tax Commissi.mer, advising having forwarded a statement of values of real property in Te Aroha, and giving instructions to the Board as to its object. After comparing some of I the past with the proposed values, it was subsequently resolved to adjourn the meeting for a fortnight. The other business proceeded as follows Poundkeeper's statement for a month, enclosing 3s B.jd percentage lo the Board, accepted. Mrs M. J. Stanley applied to have lior name placed on the roll in consideration of holding Section !), Block 3">, Te Aroha. Resolved that the application be adjourned till next meeting. Two small accounts amounting to 14s (id were passed for payment. The Chairman drew the attention of the Board to the fact that there are two old shaft holes at the back of Alec. Russell's property which are dangerous to children and cattle, and require to be tilled up. Com. Mills thought this was not a matter for the Board, and it was arranged to find out where tho line of street lays in that locality. The Secretary stated re overdue rates that since last meeting he. had summoned five defaulters. Two had paid into Court, one had confessed judgment, and two lie had obtained judgment against. In reply to his query if lie should take out distress warrants in each case, the Board gave him instructions, to do so. The Secretary also stated that there was about £20 of rates to collect to pay off the overdraft amounting to £10 17s lid. This concluded the business. IfiKK.—The recent calamitous fire at Cambridge has awakened from their musings some of our leading townsmen and property-holders to cause them to seriously discuss decisive measures to prevent a similar calamity, not only at Te Aroha but at Waiorougomai also. House Killed.--Whilst the train was nearing Te Aroha on Thursday afternoon, a horse straying on the line was caught by the cow-catcher and killed.
