WAIPA COUNTY COUNCIL
The usu-il monthly meeting of the "S\ aipa County Council was held in the Council Chambers, Ohaupo, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday. There were present: Crs. Lang (cliairmin). Kidler, Finch, Farrell, S-nith, Hunter and ({rice, Mr Armstrong, County Engineer, was also in attendance. , Engineer's Report. -The Engineer r»ad his monthly report, as follows :—To the Chairman of the Waipa County Council : Mm,—Contracts No. 08, forming near Tβ Rore;No. 100, grading Onikau road ; Ao. 102, forming Hamilfcon-Olwuipo road ; and No. 103, scouring ditches Tnhilcaramea district, have been completed since the last sitting of the Council. On contract JNo. 08 I do not recommend any further advance until the expiration of the period for maintenance. On contract No. 100 I recommend the payment of the balance due, £4 3s 3d, retaining the deposit for the present. On contract No. 103 I recommend the payment of £3 7s 0.1, and on contract No. 103 the payment of £3. The work on contract No. lOt not having been carried out in accoidMiice with the specification—to which fact I'iiv. <;illtid the c mtract'irs' attention — iiMymi'iit for this work will be withheld for ihe present. The contractor is making good progress with No. 'JO contract—diversion of load at Alexandra. I recommend an advance of £11 on this job. Tenders are due. to be opened to-day for contract No. 104, gravelling in the T'.ihikaramea district.—l am, &c—Alex. Armstrong. The report was received and adopted. Road Diversion at Alexandra.—Cr. Finch said that he did not think the road diversion at Alexandra as at present being done was a necessary work, or the road Dcing made was the best that could have been got, but as he was absent from the meeting at which it was decided to go on with the work, he wished simply now to state that he was not in favour of the Wh ATA what a Ranger.—Mr J. Calder, ranger at Whatawhata, wrote asking as to the roads over which he had been appointed ranger, and as he understood the action of the Council was illegal he requested that his deposit be returned together with £2 10s expenses. A letter was received from the Newcastle Road Board on a petition received by them from a number of ratepayers asking' that the ranger bo removed. As Cr. Dawson, tho representative of the Newcastle riding, was not present, it was decided to hold tho matter over until next, meeting, the Council in tlm to ascertain the leeling of the' ''district on tho subject. Hospital Contri»ution.--A demnnd for £290 4s 3d was received from the Waikato District Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, as boing the amount of contribution due by tho Waipa, C purity for the period ending March 31st, 1800. This matter was also deferred to next meeting. Finance.—Tin* clerk reported that the over drift had now been reduced to £'.)08. Rmi.vi; Expenditure.—A statement of riding expenditure was laid on the table. Furze.-- Mr D. M. Bjere wrote stating that he had no fences on his property, and the furze complained of must have spread from the opposite side of the road. Cr. iiidler stated that the tenant on the opposite side of the road to Mr Beore's property was going to start clearing his furze imincdiutdy. Pollino Place.—A letter was read from the Ngaruawahia Town Board asking that a polling place be made at Ngaruawahia. It was resolved to leave the matter in the hands of tho ReturningOfh'cer. ltAnurrDor.s.—A number of applications to register rabbit dogs were received, but as they were too late they were not entertained by the Council. The applications from Cambridge- West and Ohaupo held ovsr from last meeting were not granted. Tenders.—The following tenders were received for contract No. 104, gravelhngin the Tnhikaramea riding near Mr Bhickctt s : —Reid and Drabble, 8s per chain ; 1. .). Meredith, Ss ; J. Kennedy, os4d;D. Cronm, 10s, informal.-Reid and Drabble s tender was accopted on th.i motion of the man, seconded by Cr. Ridler.—Cr. Smith moved that Contract No. 103, forming m the Alexandra Outlying District be gone on with.—Seconded by Cr. Hunter and carried. Appleyard's tender of 3s per chain was accepted. . Accounts.—The following payments were authorised :—Hamilton Borough Council, £5 10s 3d; Tun Waikato Times, £2 ss; Fiwlces and Foxall, 10s ; Reid and Drabble, £", Is 3d ; R. Waite, £3 14s (id ; C.
