Tub Pi'bijc Health,— Before, taking the ordinary business of the Council, the Inspector of Nuisances read the following report:—" I have visited the families and houses where the cases of sickness exists, and asked the people belonging to them whether there were any nuisances in the neighbourhood they knew of or complained of, and they said "No" so that the caws reported have not arisen from nuisances. From information received, I have reason to believe one case occurred through using bad water. The smells arising from time to time are, occasioned from the present system oE closets and the want of a system of earth closets, and a contract for the removal of house refuse."—The Chairman said that he did not think the matter should be gone into at this meeting as some of the councillors were not present, they having no notice that this business was coming on ; but a, special meeting should be held at an early date.—Cr. Jones suggested the advisability of calling a public meeting, as the subject was a very important one.—Cr. von Stunner said that they should have a special meeting of the Council first, and if it was then thought necessary, they could call a public meeting, when they wovild have something definite to lay before the meeting. A good water supply, which eould easily be obtained on both sides of the river, and a system of earth closets would he thought be the best way to abate the nuisances complained of.— The Chairman moved that a special meeting of the Council be held at 7.30 on Friday evening, to consider the report of the Inspector of Nuisances.—Seconded by Cr.
