INTERPROVINCIAL.
(BY TELEGKPAH.— PRESS ASSOCIATION). CHRISTCHURCH, Wednesday. Richard Lord has been committed for trial, charged for indecently assaulting a girl 12 years of ago, in the Domain.
A largely attended meeting of justices was convened by Mr Whiteford, R. M., to consider the subject of juvenile crime. The general opinion was strongly in favour of punishing the parents for neglecting their responsibility, and of the establishment of a training ship. A committee of the senior justices was appointed to drawup a resolution for presentation to a future meeting. Inspector Pender states that in the past five years, 271 children were brought before the court, 65 of whom were illegitimate. He objected to flogging boys, pointing out that out of 81 flogged, 37 were arrested.
A meeting is to be held shortly to organise a Parnell fund iu this district. A deputation waited on the Mayor this morning, to ask him to preside, but his Worship postponed his answer.
