THE HORTICULTURAL SHOW.

Tin-: committee of the Waikato Horticultural Show, who have in hand the arrangements for the approaching show in Cambridge on Saturday and Monday, the Kith and 18th March, are to be complimented on the large number of special prizes they have secured. The competitions for these prizes are always an interesting feature of the show, and, as a number are offered for various exhibits not included in the society's prize schedule, are a means of exciting more general interest in the show itself. It will be seen from the list, which appears in our business columns, that special prizes are ottered for evaporated fruit, eider, wine, preserved fruits and jams and jellies, and considering how the produce of our orchards is allowed to waste, through there being at present no means at hand for its profitable utilization, lessons may be learned from these exhibits, and growers generally may bo induced to turn their attention to these means of disposing of the products of their orchards. The exhibits of jams, jellies, preserved fruit, home-made bread, and butter at tho last two shows were commendable, and as these were chiefly entered by ladies, and cause them to take an active interest in the show, we are pleased to see they will again have an opportunity of showing their skill in those particular lines. Tho committee have written to Messrs Hay, McDonald, and Wren, of the Auckland nurseries, asking them to officiate as judges tho forthcoming show. They have als» decided to offer a prize fur jams and jollies. They are in treaty with a band to perform during the two days, l'n conjunction with the athletic sports committee, they forwarded a potition for a special train from Auckland to be put on on the Monday, and Mr Wells, the chairman of the Committee, received the following reply from Mr Hudson, Yesterday : —Have arranged to issue, extending excursion tickets to Cambridge, by ordinary trains on March Kith, returning any day up to March 24th, from Auckland, Newmarket, and Ooehunga. Saturday return ticket" will be issued to Cambridge, on March Kith and ISth, the return up to March liOth. A special will run from Te Awainueu and intermediate stations to Cambridge, on March 18th, returning same day to To Awamutu. Trust above arrangement will meet your wishes."
