Under cross-ex-amination by Sir Chas. Russell, the witness became greatly confused, and being compelled to write several words in court, misspelt them in the same way aa they appeared in the letters. A great sensation was caused in London, and Mr Balfour was greeted in the House of Commons with jeers and hisses from the Parnellites. Pigott admitted he had been systematically blackmailing the Government and Parnellites.
