Tub following reply has been recoivod by Capt. Iteid to the challenge forwarded from the Hamilton Light Infantry to the Auckland City Guards :—Silt, —I have tho honour to acknowledge receipt of your favour of the loth inst., and have much pleasure on behalf of the corps under my command, in accepting your friendly challenge to fire a ?natch at our range, and trust tho following conditions will meet with your views. Conditions : 10,12, or 15 men a-side. Ranges: 200, 300, i>oo yards. Sighting shots : One .sighting shot at each range. Shots : If 10 men, 7 shots ;12 or !•"> men, "i shots. Date : Saturday, tho 2nd March. I may state that on any Saturday it would be more convenient for my team to fire, and should Saturday, the 2ml, not be convenient for your team, kindly let me know. Ro the number of men to lire, I leave it entirely to yourself to suit you. Owing to tho encampment this week, and sis we are likely to remain under canvas until Monday next, I could not arrange the !»atch in accordance with your favour. —• Trusting to hear from you soon, I have tho hfinour to be, sir, your obedient servant, C.
