Pocn'd an* i > Rawer. —Mr Bycroft brought under the notice of the Board the report of a meeting of the Waipa County Council as it appeared in THK WaIKATO Tnn:s of the 10r.li inst., when, on the recommendation of Mr Dawson, a resolution was agreed to establish a pound and appoint a ranger fo.' the Newcastle Riding, the fees to lie 2s (ill per head for the right to run cattle. Me thought this strange after the ratepayers so many times, at public meetings and otherwise, expressed their disapprobition of a pound or ranger in this district,, and which had produced such unsatisfactory results in the past. Ho thought before doing so the ratepayers should have been consulted. —Mr Corbett said he thought the councillor for this riding should have known from previous experience that a pound was not desirable, and that tho ranger and proposed fee for the right to run cattle in the district are altogether illegal. He thoughL if any cuttings were trampled by the cattle going to water, it would bo better to fence them out than to mi Jertake the expense of erecting a pound, with the ranger's fee and tho rest of its many other objectionable features.—The Board concurred in these remarks, but thought it must probable the Council would discover its mistake in due time. Tho Board then rose.
